Weekly Cumulative All-Cause Mortality by Calendar Year
These charts shows the weekly cumulative excess deaths by calendar year from all-causes for Germany and its states over time.
Nordrhein Westfalen reported 32,536 deaths, for the 52 weeks of year 2020 (65-74 years of age). Expected deaths were 33,221. That is an increase of -685 deaths (-2.1%).
Nordrhein Westfalen reported 35,541 deaths for the 52 weeks of year 2021 (65-74 years of age). Expected deaths were 33,908. That is an increase of +1,633 deaths (+4.8%).
Nordrhein Westfalen reported 37,279 deaths for the 52 weeks of year 2022 (65-74 years of age). Expected deaths were 33,670. That is an increase of +3,609 deaths (+10.7%).
Year to date, Nordrhein Westfalen reported 4,611 deaths for the 6 weeks of year 2023 (65-74 years of age). Expected deaths were 4,160. That is an increase of +451 deaths (+10.8%).
These are raw undadjusted numbers as reported by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis.de). Excess is calculated by substracting deaths from the baseline. The baseline is calculated as the pre-pandemic average of 2015-2019 adjusted for the linear trend (10y linear regression). Striked out series can be toggled by clicking on the legend. We use a projection algorithm to account for the delay in reporting based on up to 8 weeks of previous reports. The figures, are not suitable forcomparison between states, as they do not normalize for differences in population size and age structure.
